Common Ground

A Garden for the Good of the Community.

Grow Local Greenwood Lake is passionate about demonstrating how local food security is possible by creating a sustainable source of fresh food right in our own village.

Our Common Ground Community Garden was created in 2021 with the goal of improving our quality of life, encouraging community involvement, and demonstrating the power of victory gardens for Greenwood Lake residents.

Today, Common Ground has two aims: 1) we encourage people from diverse backgrounds to work together while growing, harvesting and sharing healthy, locally produced food; and 2) provide free, healthy food for our local community. The garden, located on Poplar Street, is open to all and provides free food for anyone in need. From early June through early October, volunteers are onsite on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings to assist with access to the garden’s current harvest.

We make sure we use no chemicals and proper regenerative growing techniques like no tilling and heavy mulching with an emphasis on natives and perennials.

You are welcome to join in the day’s work or to simply stop by for a bag of fresh vegetables.

We rely on volunteers to accomplish our goals. Please click the button below to use our volunteer time tracker form so we can better track our progress. Thank you!

To succeed, we are cultivating a robust group of volunteers to assist with garden maintenance. We welcome those with all levels of experience, from the novice to the expert gardener. Come ready to play in the dirt! Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty, closed-toes shoes, gloves, and any sun/bug protection you may need. Also, bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. Check out our volunteer page for opportunities to join us. By giving your time, you will support a dignified, free-food model, build connections, and bolster our community's health and wellness.

We enjoy hosting volunteers. Spend a few hours in nature cultivating food and growing community. By volunteering with us, you are supporting a dignified free-food model, building connections, and bolstering our community's health and wellness.

What can you expect?

Working in the garden is a day-by-day, season-by-season activity. Depending on the season, the weather, and Mother Nature's plans, our tasks range from starting seeds in pots to weeding in the garden, mulching paths, composting, harvesting, and everything in between!

Common Ground Community Garden is located at 13 Poplar Street in the Village of Greenwood Lake. Please join us during any of our open volunteer times. (Subject to change as needed!) Also please check the events calendar to see what’s coming up!
